Artist Statement:
My piece “Touch Stone” was a local rock in my Labyrinth, where I walk to connect my mind and body. I chose it for “Out of Place” because I literally took it out of its place and hand carved “Touch” into it. It is a play on the touchstones we carry with us only this one is way too big to fit in a pocket. I applied Gold Leaf to the lettering which is in itself “out of place” to see on a boulder. I hope the viewer will appreciate the whimsy of a giant, gilded touch stone and that it might calm their spirit if they touch this Gneiss rock.
Artist Biography:
I work with ink, stone, and metal. I create Printmaking, Stonecarving, and Jewellery. Currently my stone work includes hand cut lettering, where in the past I carved primarily sculptures. As I age I have given myself permission to evolve with my art practice yet the thread of inspiration runs throughout all my art forms. I am inspired by nostalgia, landmarks, abstraction, and flora & fauna. I enjoy living near Dorset, time with family and pets, and time spent outdoors in nature.
