The Candy Store
$375.00
Artist: Lorrie Morton
Medium: Acrylic
Artist Statement:
This door represents a point of entry into childhood memory: remembered in a father’s heart and rooted in a place from our town, our minds, and our shared experiences. These threads are connected by the universal pleasure of that perfect sweet indulgence from The Candy Store. I was initially drawn to the artistry of the worn, bent door handle. While trying to capture the optimal angle for a photograph, I caught a glimpse through the window of a father and son intently scanning the display for the perfect selection. The reflection on the glass created a magical feeling: a moment frozen in time, yet repeatable across generations.
Artist Biography:
Painting has been a hobby for many years, primarily in watercolour. Retirement has brought the time to explore new techniques and learn from trained artists. Now working in acrylics, I am excited to see more clearly and translate that vision onto canvas. I am drawn to painting what surrounds me, particularly objects that tell stories, as well as the landscapes and changing seasons of Muskoka, and the interplay of light and shadow within them.
