Artist Statement:
This piece is completed using oil pastels on paper and captures the serenity of finding our place. We spend so much of our lives searching for our place: with friends, a home, and purpose. When we finally find our place it’s like a mountainous weight, endlessly straining us, falls away and brilliant light shines into our soul. In this piece the eyes are softly closed as if there is nothing to worry about. We keep our eyes open to observe, learn, scan, and judge. When the eyes are closed we can’t do any of those things, here we find peace. The electric yellow and orange are light that comes from the peace and joy from our purpose and serenity. This artwork illustrates the peace, light, and serenity that finding our place brings us.
Artist Biography:
Claire studies our bodies’ reactions to the diverse world around us — our mannerisms, facial expressions, and posture. She uses bold and captivating colours to subconsciously expand the emotions of the piece.
Claire Bradley is a grade 12 student from Bracebridge, Ontario. She uses human mannerisms and expressions to explore complex emotions. From great triumph to deep despair, she etches the lines of emotion in the human body with oil pastels and paint. Claire’s background in dance gave her the ability to tell a story without ever saying a word — which her paintings expand on.
