Canadian Book of the Road

$750.00

Artist: Jackie Partridge
Medium: Hand Cut Atlas

Artist Statement:

Canadian Book of the Road is an altered atlas. As each page is turned starting from the beginning of the book it reveals a cut-out house. By the end of the book the page is covered with cut-outs and is fragile. The fragility of the paper relates to the world we live in. As an artist I am interested in place, the environment, human impact and perseveration. For this work I wanted to transform an atlas to highlight the relationship of how the land is transformed on a daily basis through human impact of construction and building development. The environment is something that is in constant change, shifting, expanding and evolving. By flipping through the altered atlas, the shift in the earth is revealed to the viewer as each page loses paper or land.
