Artist Biography
Lisa Creskey is a ceramic artist and painter who explores the visual storytelling potential of the clay medium through sculpture and installation. Investigating themes of nature, history, and time, she creates immersive worlds in which to look for connections and to pose questions on essential concerns for humanity and the environment.The artist’s focus has been to push both the traditional and innovative aspects of her practice to speak through local thematics (herons of Ottawa-Gatineau waterways, barn swallows ofcovered bridges and farms) about the broader issues of our times: in 2021, her solo public
exhibition Pression Atmosphérique at Galerie Montcalm in Gatineau (with a concurrent solo exhibition Sunset Cruise at L.A. Pai Gallery in Ottawa), and solo public exhibition La traverse at Galerie le Rift in Ville-Marie, Québec in 2022. Lisa’s ceramic and mixed media outdoor public art installation Dans le nid was commissioned for the Sentier culturel/Art Path in downtown Gatineau for the summer of 2022.
Living and working as a full-time artist in Chelsea, Québec, Lisa’s work has been especially highly received by the East Asian countries that celebrate ceramic traditions that are thousands of years old. Stretching back to 2012, her most recent international recognition includes:
Finalist in the 2020 Taiwan International Ceramics Biennale, Diploma of Honour in the Korea International Ceramic Biennale KICB2019, and a 3- month 2019 Taiwan Ceramics Residency awarded, funded, and hosted by the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Honorable Mention award in the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale GICB2017 in South Korea,
Finalist in the Mark Rothko Centre’s 2017 International Contemporary Ceramics Competition MEMORY BOX in Latvia, a Recommendation Prize in the 2016 Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, and Finalist in the 2012 Taiwan International Ceramics Biennale. Impressively, significant works of the artist have been collected by the venerable ceramic organizations of the Yingge Ceramics Museum in New Taipei City, Taiwan, the Korea Ceramics Foundation in Incheon, South Korea, the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils, Latvia, and numerous works by the City of Ottawa Art Collection and the Prime Minister of Canada’s Office (PMO).
National honours include both a celebration of her medium – the 2018 Helen Copeland Memorial Award in Ceramics (Craft Ontario), Best in Show at the 2017 FUSION Clay and Glass Show, and the 2017 FUSION Fireworks Exhibition Award of Merit, but also for the artist’s vision in an exhibition installation – the Prix du CALQ 2017 – Work of the Year in the Outaouais 2017 for her 2016 solo public exhibition Match at Galerie Art-Image in Gatineau. Lisa has been commissioned by the City of Ottawa to create and present sculptural gifts: to Princess Margriet of the Netherlands in 2022 marking the official renaming of an Ottawa park in her honour; and
to Ottawa-born Canadian and Olympic figure skating champion Patrick Chan upon his receiving the keys to the city in 2019. Lisa is a member of the AIC-IAC (Académie Internationale de la Céramique – International
Academy of Ceramics) in Geneva.
